Property Description
This is a great property. First and foremost, it’s a home. It has been thoughtfully designed and built as a family home, which means all the boring but necessary things like adequate storage, parking, utility areas are present and correct.
Utility aside, this property just feels right. The double height exposed timber/bamboo roof affords a sense of space, lets in good light, and lifts your mood. In the mornings, a cooling breeze rolls down the mountains and through the open living and kitchen area. During the dry season, the onshore breeze arrives from the sea, only 300 metres away, faintly audible throughout the house, and clearly visible from the second floor office/studio space. The office is a beautiful room in itself, with high ceilings and wooden floors, it could potentially be used as another bedroom (with a bathroom just outside the door in the hallway). The antique carved wooden doors, stone work, mature gardens, and large garden and newly renovated outdoor terrace really make you just want to sit and lose track of time for a while. And in fact, when we went to visit the property, we did just that. Two hours went by in the blink of an eye, and we can’t say it was all down to our host’s warm welcome and great coffee!
So I mentioned this is a family home. You would expect a good kitchen, and you would not be disappointed. In the words of the owners, this is ‘a well-designed, well-built and highly functional kitchen and a focal point of the house.’ Of course they’d say that, they designed and built it! But they’re right. Ample work space, cleverly designed double drawers, a good view of the pool and of the dining table mean that you can cook while keeping an eye on the kids and having a civil conversation at the same time. If you’re a woman, otherwise you’ll have to choose. Part of the deal are 3 relatively new fridges (one big, one medium and one small), a stove and a washing machine.
The garden is spacious, with mature plants and trees and a nice patch of grass to run around on. The pool is beautiful and big 6mx15m – a swimmable pool, but not deep. It has a small safe section for non swimmers. Much better thought out than many of the ‘token’ pools we come across these days. The guest room in the garden means guests are welcome but have their own space away from the house, complete with bathroom, terrace, and views of the garden and pool.
This villa isn’t located smack in the middle of Sanur. It’s 20 minutes along a nice easy road with a great name (Jl Bypass Professor Doctor Ida Bagus Mantra). It’s within reaching distance of Sanur, but definitely away from the crowds. Fortunately, this doesn’t mean you have to compromise with your creature comforts (or necessities). You’re on the grid, with telephone land line, internet, cable/satellite tv, no water issues, and relatively well maintained roads. You’re very close to Keramas and the very nice Komune Beach Club. Ubud is about 20 minutes away, Padang Bai and Candidasa around 20 minutes too. You’re much closer to what people love to call ‘the real Bali’, perhaps Saba is the real Bali. If you don’t fancy being in the middle of Sanur, and don’t need to get down the Bypass towards Kuta every day, this property works. If you want to be closer to the east coast, you’re there. If your kids are at Dyatmika School, easy. And if you just want to spend a bit of time sitting in the shade with a nice breeze on your face, this is your home.
